You can only reach Delft Island by sea on ferries that depart from Kurikattuwan Jetty, 30 kilometers from Jaffna. First, you need to get to Jaffna - the northernmost city of Sri Lanka, and then head to the jetty.

Main stages of the route:

  • First, get to Jaffna by train, bus, or plane from Colombo
  • From Jaffna to Kurikattuwan Jetty, you can take bus No. 776 (about an hour's journey) or a tuk-tuk
  • From the jetty to Delft, there are state ferries operated by the Sri Lankan Navy

Ferry service operates on a schedule: from Kurikattuwan to Delft, ferries depart at 07:30, 08:30, 14:30, 16:00, and 16:45. Return trips from Delft are at 06:15, 06:45, 11:30, 14:30, and 15:30. Travel on state ferries is free, but it's important to note that trips may be canceled due to bad weather.

When boarding the ferry, foreigners must register, for which a passport is required. Registration is free upon arrival on the island.
