You can get to Negombo from other cities in Sri Lanka by bus, often with transfers through major transport hubs. This is quite simple even for inexperienced travelers.

From Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella there are direct buses at least from Kandy, and from other cities in the central region, it's easy to get there with a transfer through Kandy or Colombo.

From southern resorts (Unawatuna, Galle, Bentota, Hikkaduwa) you need to take a bus or train to Colombo, and then transfer to transport to Negombo. Buses and trains run frequently, getting there is very easy even with a transfer.

From other cities in Sri Lanka, if there is no direct bus to Negombo, you can travel with a transfer through Colombo, Kandy, or Kurunegala.

From almost anywhere in the country, you can get to Negombo by bus within daylight hours. To do this, you need to arrive early in the morning at the local bus station and ask drivers or "helpers" (touts), who will suggest the optimal route and transfer points.

There are direct routes to Negombo from Kandy, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Kalpitiya, and other cities. To southern cities and beaches in the country, it's more convenient to travel with a transfer through Colombo.
