Is it worth going to Negombo in Sri Lanka?

Negombo is worth visiting if you want to experience authentic Sri Lankan life, but don't expect a wide variety of entertainment from this resort. There are very few attractions here - mainly Catholic churches, several Hindu and Buddhist temples, and mosques. The most interesting places are the local fish markets: the new and old ones, with the new market being one of the largest in Sri Lanka.
There is practically no entertainment in Negombo - even on the beach, there are no water activities. During the day, you can stroll through the few attractions or go on excursions, take a train or bus to Colombo, and in the evening, you can only dine at one of the restaurants on the main street or on the beach with a view of the sunset. There are no night discos or even bars open late here.
The city is perfect for a quiet vacation and getting to know the local culture, but if you are looking for active recreation with many entertainment options, it's better to consider other resorts in Sri Lanka.
