The monetary unit of Indonesia is the Indonesian rupiah (Indonesia Rupiah, code IDR). On price tags, banknotes, and coins, it is denoted as Rp. All official transactions in the country are conducted only in the local currency, and foreign currency may be accepted only privately by agreement.

In circulation are banknotes with denominations of 1000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 rupiah. Coins include 500 and 100 rupiah, although smaller denominations (50, 25, 10 rupiah) existed previously, but they are practically not used now.

For tourists, several methods of obtaining rupiah are available: exchanging cash dollars, euros, or other convertible currencies, using foreign bank cards or UnionPay from Rosselkhozbank and ATB, as well as topping up local e-wallets, such as GoPay, through crypto exchanges. It is important not to rely on one method but to combine several options, for example, cash, card, and e-wallet, to avoid problems in case of failures.
