How to avoid food poisoning in Thailand and what rules should you follow?

Almost every second tourist is afraid of getting food poisoning in Thailand, but if you follow simple rules, the risk is minimal. Here is what really matters:

• Look at the flow of people. If a stall is empty, don't risk it. If there's a crowd of locals around it, feel free to go up.
• Eat freshly prepared food. It's better to wait 5 minutes while your food is being cooked than to take a dish that has been sitting under a lid for an hour.
• Don't drink tap water. Even for brushing your teeth, use bottled water. Ice in drinks is made from purified water – it's safe.
• Start with "no spicy." That way you'll get used to the local cuisine gradually.
• Wash your hands before eating. We always carry a small bottle of alcohol-based sanitizer with us – it comes in handy in any situation. You can buy wet wipes at 7-Eleven.
