No, there are no beaches for swimming in Bangkok itself. The capital of Thailand is a huge modern metropolis located 30 kilometers from the coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Along the Chao Phraya River and city canals (klongs), there are no equipped swimming areas; the water is dirty and not intended for recreation. The only option for a "beach" vacation within the city is a pool on the roof of a hotel, of which there are many in Bangkok, especially in the Sukhumvit and Silom areas.

However, this does not mean that staying in Bangkok deprives you of the opportunity to swim in the sea. If you really want to, you can easily go from the city to one of the nearest beach resorts. Here are a few options for a day trip:

  • Pattaya — the most popular resort 150 km from Bangkok. The journey by bus or taxi takes about 2 hours. The beaches here are urban, crowded, but the infrastructure is excellent.
  • Hua Hin — a calmer and more aristocratic resort 200 km to the south. You can get there by train or bus in 3-4 hours. The beaches here are cleaner and more spacious.
  • Cha Am — located near Hua Hin, but considered a more budget-friendly option. A great place for those who just want to lie on the sand.
  • Bang Saen — the closest beach to Bangkok, only 80 km away. It is a popular weekend getaway for locals. The beach is not the most luxurious, but suitable for a quick trip.
  • Si Racha — another inexpensive option near Bangkok, known for its seafood.

Remember that a trip to the beach from Bangkok and back will take almost the whole day. If your main goal is a beach vacation, it is better to go directly to the resort, and leave Bangkok for 1-2 days at the beginning or end of your trip for sightseeing and shopping.

Bangkok itself is worth visiting for its incredible temples (Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun), bustling markets, nightlife on Khao San Road, and giant shopping malls. It is a city to explore, not to lie on the beach.
