Where is Lake Ritsa in Abkhazia and how to get there from Gagra?

Lake Ritsa is located in Abkhazia, on the territory of Ritsa National Park, 60 kilometers from the city of Gagra. The road from Gagra takes about 1.5–2 hours one way due to serpentines and stops at viewpoints. The lake is situated at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level, surrounded by picturesque mountains.

You can reach the lake in several ways:

• By car on your own — the most convenient option. The road to the lake is paved but with sharp turns. There is a paid parking lot near the lake (200 rubles for the whole day), as parking is prohibited near the embankment and traffic police are on duty there.
• By taxi — you can order a private driver through your hotel or local taxi services (A-Taxi, Garuda). A one-way trip from Gagra costs from 2800 rubles, and an individual excursion with waiting costs from 6000 to 10000 rubles.
• With a group excursion — the most popular option. Excursions are sold at all resorts in Abkhazia and even in Sochi. The price starts from 1300 rubles per person plus the entrance fee to the park. However, be prepared that group tours spend a lot of time on commercial stops (apiaries, markets, cafes).
