When choosing medical insurance for Thailand, it is important to consider several key points so that the policy actually works in a critical situation. Here is what we advise to pay attention to:

  • Sum insured: We recommend at least $50,000. Serious surgeries and hospitalization in Thailand can be very expensive.
  • Deductible: Policies with a deductible (where you pay the first, for example, $50 yourself) are cheaper. For a relaxing beach holiday, this is an option, but for an active one, it is better to take one without a deductible.
  • COVID-19 coverage: Make sure that treatment for coronavirus is included in the coverage. In modern policies, this is already standard.
  • Option "Active recreation" and "Motorcycle riding": Be sure to add these options if you plan to ride a bike, go snorkeling or trekking. Basic insurance often excludes such risks.

Also remember that to ride a motorcycle you need a license with category "A", otherwise the insurance may not cover the damage.
