Answer (changed )

The Touch 'n Go card, necessary for bus travel and convenient for the metro, can be purchased and topped up at many points throughout Kuala Lumpur.

Where to buy a Touch 'n Go card:

  • At most metro stations (LRT, MRT, monorail) in special kiosks or ticket counters.
  • At the transport hub KL Sentral (there is a separate sales point there).
  • At chain stores: 7-Eleven, MyNews.
  • At some gas stations.

The cost of the empty card itself is 10 ringgit. This is a deposit that will not be refunded to you.

How to top up the balance (top-up):

  • At terminals at metro stations: many, but not all, accept cash (bills and coins). You can also use Visa/Mastercard (UnionPay does not work).
  • At ticket counters at metro stations: the operator will top up the card for cash.
  • At partner stores: such as 7-Eleven, MyNews β€” simply tell the cashier you want to top up Touch 'n Go, and pay in cash.

Our advice: Since the balance on the card cannot be refunded, top up the balance in small amounts, for example, 10-20 ringgit, as needed. The card is valid for only one person; you cannot pay for two people's travel with one card.
