A vacation on Koh Lipe is expensive, but there are proven life hacks that can significantly reduce the budget without losing impressions.

  1. Book accommodation well in advance. 2–3 months before the trip, prices for hotels and guesthouses are significantly lower, especially during peak season (January-February).
  2. Buy food in the right places. For groceries, go not to 7-Eleven, but to local supermarkets Market (near Ricci House Resort) or Patt Market on Walking Street — they have the lowest prices on the island. Some budget hotels have shared kitchens.
  3. Save on breakfasts. You can use a kettle to prepare simple food in the room. We have a separate video on this topic.
  4. Drink at Happy Mojito. This bar on Sunset Beach offers the cheapest mojitos (100 baht) and beer (from 90 baht) on the island. In other places, beer costs 120–150 baht.
  5. Carry water from the store with you. On the beach, it will cost twice as much.
  6. Exchange the right currency. Do not exchange yuan — the rate is predatory (difference with the official rate almost 9%). Take dollars or euros, or better yet, exchange money in advance on the mainland.
  7. Pay in cash. When paying by card, they often charge a commission of 3–5%.
  8. Walk. The island is small, it takes 10–15 minutes to walk from Pattaya Beach to Sunrise. This will save 50 baht on moto-taxi for each trip.
  9. Bargain for tours. On Walking Street, there are dozens of travel agencies — compare prices and don't hesitate to ask for a discount.
