The best time to travel to Vietnam to avoid rain depends on the specific region, as the country is elongated from north to south. Roughly, three main zones with different climates can be distinguished.

Main rule: in Vietnam, you can always find a place with good weather, you just need to choose the right resort.

  • South Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Phu Quoc): The ideal dry season here lasts from December to April. From May to November is the rainy season, but it does not mean continuous downpours. Rains often occur in the evening or at night, and it is sunny during the day. The main discomfort during this period can be caused by wind and waves at sea.
  • Central Coast (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang): Here it is the opposite. It is dry and sunny from May to October. And from November, especially in December-February, the weather worsens: rains are frequent, the sea is rough, swimming may be difficult. Also, there is a risk of typhoons in September-November.
  • North Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa): The attractive warm and dry period for tourists here is from May to October. From November to April, it can be quite cool (from +10Β°C at night to +20Β°C during the day), and in mountainous areas, for example in Sapa, snow sometimes falls in winter.

Thus, if you want guaranteed dry and sunny weather for a beach holiday in the south, plan your trip for winter or early spring. For excursions in the north and center, the period from May to October is more suitable.
