There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency (dollars, euros, etc.) that can be brought in or taken out. However, there is a mandatory declaration rule.
Mandatory declaration applies to any foreign currency equivalent to 20,000 US dollars or more. No duties need to be paid, but a declaration must be filled out and questions from the customs officer answered. At Suvarnabhumi Airport, this is done on the 4th floor, and the process takes about 15 minutes.
For Thai currency (baht), there are separate rules:
- Taking out 50,000 baht or more also requires declaration.
- Taking baht to neighboring countries (Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam) is limited to 500,000 baht.
