There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency brought into or taken out of Egypt. However, there is a declaration rule: if the amount of cash in any currency exceeds the equivalent of 10,000 US dollars, it must be declared upon entry and exit. No duties are charged for this; the declaration is only for accounting purposes. As for Egyptian pounds, you can bring in and take out no more than 5,000 pounds.
