Answer (changed )

Entry to Muong Hoa Valley for tourists is paid and costs 150,000 Vietnamese dong (approximately 6 US dollars).

This fee must be paid at the checkpoint (CPP), which is located on the main TL152 road leading from Sapa to the valley. If you plan to enter the valley from the popular tourist village of Cat Cat, there is also its own checkpoint with the same entry cost of 150,000 dong.

Important point: If you enter the valley from another side, not from Sapa, but for example, from the city of Lao Cai or Ban Ho village, then there is no checkpoint at that entrance and you will not have to pay. However, most tourists and organized tours enter precisely from the Sapa side.

This fee is a kind of tourist fee for visiting a protected natural and cultural area. The collected funds, theoretically, should go towards maintaining infrastructure and developing local communities.

When planning your trip budget, note that this is a one-time payment for entry into the valley itself. Additionally, money may be needed for a guide, transportation, meals in village cafes, and, of course, for souvenirs or donations to local residents who often accompany tourists along the trails.

More practical information on how to visit the valley can be found in our detailed article: Muong Hoa Valley.
