You can get from the center of Hue to the imperial tombs (Minh Mang, Tu Duc, Khai Dinh) by rented transport, taxi, or as part of a tour. Public transport does not go to them, as the tombs are scattered within a radius of 7-20 km from the city.

Here are all the options:

  1. Renting a motorbike or car with a driver: The most flexible and popular way. Allows you to create your own route, visit non-standard places (for example, the Thuy Xuan incense village) and move at your own pace. Motorbike rental β€” from 120,000 dong per day (a category "A" license is required).
  2. Taxi or motorbike taxi (Grab): Convenient if you don't want to drive yourself. A trip to one tomb will cost about 100,000 - 150,000 dong one way. It is more profitable to negotiate with the driver for several hours with waiting.
  3. Organized tour: You can buy a group bus tour (from ~$10 excluding entrance tickets) from street agencies or online. The downside is a fixed route and little time at each place.
  4. Boat cruise on the river: Some tombs (Minh Mang) can be visited as part of a slow river cruise. This takes a whole day and leaves little time for sightseeing, so it is not the most optimal option if time is limited.

Logistics tip: The tombs are located in different directions from Hue. The optimal route for one day: start with the farthest one (for example, Minh Mang), then Tu Duc (you can stop by the incense village on the way), and end with Khai Dinh, which is closer to the city. All locations are marked on the map in our article.
