If you only have one day in Hoi An Old Town, it's optimal to combine free walks with visiting several key paid attractions using a single ticket. Here is a sample itinerary:

During the day:

  1. Start with the Japanese Bridge (Cau Chua Pagoda) β€” the symbol of the city. Entry inside the chapel is paid (by ticket), but the bridge itself and the view of it can be appreciated for free.
  2. Buy a single ticket (120,000 dong) and visit 2-3 attractions from our recommended list: Tan Ky Old House, Hoi An Museum, or Quan Cong Temple.
  3. Stroll along Bach Dang Embankment and drop by Hoi An Main Market for souvenirs and local flavor.

In the evening (the most important!):

  1. Be sure to wait for sunset and walk along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Lantern Street. This is an unforgettable sight.
  2. Cross the pedestrian bridge to An Hoi Island, where the evening night market operates with street food and atmosphere.
  3. If time permits, visit a traditional show (Hoi An Traditional Performance House), with sessions at 3:15 PM or 4:15 PM (included in the single ticket).
And look at the beauty on the river in the evening

Such a day will allow you to experience both the historical and romantic sides of Hoi An. For more ideas and a detailed list of attractions, see our article: Old Town in Hoi An: how to visit, opening hours and cost
