How much does a bus ride cost in Hanoi?

The cost of a ride on Hanoi's city buses depends on the route. Here are the current fares:

• Most city routes: fixed price 10,000 dong (approximately $0.4 or 30-35 rubles). You pay this amount to the conductor upon boarding, regardless of distance.
• Routes to suburbs and the airport: the cost is higher. Regular buses going to the airport (e.g., No. 17) cost about 25,000 dong. The special express bus No. 86, which goes from the airport through the tourist area to the railway station, costs 45,000 dong.

The price is always displayed inside the bus on the windows or doors. Conductors honestly issue tickets, and cases of overcharging tourists are practically non-existent. Payment is made only in cash with Vietnamese dong, so it's advisable to have small bills.
