What boats are used for rides in Hoi An?

In Hoi An, there are several types of boats for rides on the Thu Bon River, and the most popular option is traditional Vietnamese rowing boats (not round).

It is on these wooden boats that the standard 20-minute ride offered on the embankment takes place. They are authentic, operated manually by a boatman using oars, which adds a special charm to the trip. Such a boat usually accommodates from 1 to 5 people, depending on its size.

Important: If you want to ride the famous round woven boats (thung chai), they are not available in the center of Hoi An. For this, you need to go to special places, for example, to the Bamboo Village (Cam Thanh Coconut Village), which is located outside the old town.

• Large cruise boats or motorboats: Suitable for large groups or those who want a longer tour, sometimes with dinner or drinks. This is already a more expensive option (from 500,000 dong).

Thus, for a classic and budget introduction to Hoi An from the water, choose standard rowing boats near the An Hoi Bridge. For a special experience with round boats, plan a separate trip to the coconut village.
