Hoi An is a small and cozy town, so the best way to explore its historic center is on foot. The narrow streets, old houses, and riverfront are made for leisurely exploration. In the evening, many central streets by the river become pedestrian-only.

For trips to the beach (about 4 km from the center) or the surrounding areas, the following are excellent options:

  • Bicycle rental: A classic choice for Hoi An. Rental costs about 50,000 dong per day. Many hotels offer bicycles to guests for free, but their condition may be mediocre.
  • Motorbike (scooter) rental: Our favorite way for independent trips to Da Nang, Marble Mountains, or My Son ruins. Rental cost starts from 120,000 dong per day. It's better to rent on Hai Ba Trung Street, where there are many rental shops and prices are lower.
  • Taxi: Convenient for long-distance trips or if you don't want to drive yourself. Use apps like Grab or Xanh SM. A ride within the center costs from 40,000 dong, to the beach from 60,000 dong.
Hoi An is full of bicycle rental shops

Cyclo rickshaws are more of a tourist attraction for photos and short rides, not serious transportation. Prices start from 100,000 dong, but you need to bargain actively.
