For independent exploration of Hue and its surroundings (imperial tombs, pagodas), it is best to rent a motorbike. This gives you complete freedom of movement, allowing you to plan your route and time at attractions yourself.

  • Motorbike rental: There are many rental shops in the tourist area. The cost is from 120,000 dong per day, with discounts usually given for multiple days. A deposit is often not required, but legally, a category "A" license with an international permit is needed.
  • Bicycle rental: Suitable for very active tourists and trips only within the city center. It is 8-10 km one way to the distant tombs, which can be tiring under the scorching sun. There are few bicycle rentals, with prices from 50,000 dong.
  • Taxi (Grab/Xanh SM): Convenient for point-to-point trips if you don't want to drive yourself. For example, to get from the hotel to the Citadel (from 30,000 dong) or to Tu Duc's tomb (from 90,000 dong).
  • Tours: The most carefree option. In Hue, there are many street agencies where you can buy group or individual tours to the main attractions.
Finding a motorbike for rent in Hue is not a problem

On foot, you can comfortably explore only the Imperial City itself and the river embankment. For everything else, transport is necessary.
