In Egypt, US dollars from older years of issue are accepted and exchanged with great reluctance. Particularly problematic are banknotes issued up to and including 2006. And it is practically impossible to pay or exchange banknotes issued before 2001.

Therefore, when receiving dollars from a Russian bank before your trip, be sure to clarify at the counter which banknotes they are giving you. It is better to do this before making the exchange, because if you have already been given old banknotes, it will be extremely difficult to exchange them back for new ones.

This is because local exchange offices, banks, and even market vendors fear counterfeits and simply do not want to deal with outdated series. To avoid problems with paying for visas, taxis from the airport, or first purchases, bring only new series banknotes. Check them at home.

We have detailed not only about exchange, but also about which currency is generally better to take on the trip. We advise reading our reliable guide, based on personal experience: Where to exchange dollars in Egypt.
