Fruit prices in Egypt in 2026, as always, strongly depend on season, place of purchase and your bargaining skills. They can change, but for reference, here is an approximate range in Egyptian pounds (EGP) at local markets during peak season:

  • Prickly pear (cactus fruit): 2–5 EGP per piece.
  • Strawberries: from 25 EGP per kilogram.
  • Oranges: from 50 EGP per kilogram.
  • Bananas, figs: from 10 EGP per kilogram.
  • Mango: 30–50 EGP per kilogram.
  • Pomegranate: from 20 EGP per kilogram.

Important! These are approximate prices. Out of season, the same fruits can cost 2-3 times more. At street stalls near hotels, prices are always inflated. In supermarkets (Metro, Carrefour), prices are fixed and often serve as a good reference to understand if you are being cheated at the market.

How to avoid overpaying:

  1. Buy in season. During peak harvest (e.g., mango in summer, citrus in winter), prices are minimal, and quality is maximum.
  2. Compare prices. Go to a supermarket, check the price tags, and then go to the market to bargain.
  3. Pay in Egyptian pounds. Paying in dollars or euros, you will almost certainly overpay due to an unfavorable exchange rate set by the seller.
  4. Monitor the weight. At markets, watch to ensure the seller weighs the goods honestly and does not slip in bad fruits.
