The best way to get around Negombo is by tuk-tuks. They are cheap, easy to find anywhere in the city, and perfect for short trips around the resort.

A tuk-tuk ride in the city will cost from 300 rupees. For example, from the tourist area of Lewis Place to the bus station or railway stationβ€”that's exactly how much it costs. There are three main ways to use a tuk-tuk:

  • Catch one on the streetβ€”there are dozens everywhere, but always agree on the price BEFORE the ride and bargain
  • Order through an appβ€”Uber and PickMe have the option to order a tuk-tuk at a fixed price
  • Rent for a whole dayβ€”costs from 5000 rupees for trips to attractions

Negombo is a small city, and it's quite possible to get around on foot, especially if you're staying in the tourist area. But be careful: there are few sidewalks, and where they existβ€”they are often occupied by parking or trade.

City buses are practically useless for getting around Negombo itselfβ€”they mainly run on the outskirts and between districts.
