There are few beaches in Jaffna and in the north of Sri Lanka, as most of the coast is rocky and unsuitable for swimming. The nearest beaches are located 15 kilometers from the city of Jaffna, and you can reach them by taxi, rented motorbike, or local buses. Buses depart from the bus station in the center of Jaffna, and the fare is very cheap.
Some beaches are located on islands, for example, near Delft Island. However, the infrastructure here is poorly developed, so it is better to plan your trip in advance. For detailed information about the beaches in the region, you can check out the separate guide.
