What water transport is available in Bangkok?

In Bangkok, there are three main types of water transport: water taxis, express boats along the Chao Phraya River and canals, and ferries for crossing the river. Water taxis are suitable for individual trips and sightseeing, but are expensive — from 500 baht. Express boats are the most popular option for getting around the city, they run on a schedule and cost from 14 to 33 baht. Ferries are used for quick crossings to the other side of the Chao Phraya River and cost only 3-5 baht.

Express boats along the Chao Phraya River are especially convenient, helping to avoid traffic jams and reach key attractions such as the Grand Palace or Wat Arun. Canal boats (khlongs) are also effective for traveling between districts, for example, from the center to historical sites.

Water transport mainly operates from early morning to evening, from 06:00 to 18:10 for most lines, and ferries until 21:00. For tourists, there are special Hop-on-Hop-off boats, but they are less cost-effective compared to regular scheduled ones.
