Where is it better to exchange money, at Hanoi airport or on Cat Ba?

The exchange rate at Hanoi airport is acceptable, only slightly lower than at exchange offices in resorts. But in fact, the final answer depends on whether you are willing to take steps to find a favorable exchange rate on Cat Ba, or plan to exchange money at the first street exchange office or hotel you come across.

If you search a bit, you can find an exchange rate on Cat Ba almost as high as in the most favorable exchange offices in Hanoi. To do this, go to the Cat Ba town market area, and there on Duong ¼ street, look for jewelry shops. For example, we personally checked the Vu Binh Exchange jewelry exchange there. Here are the rates for the dollar at one moment:

• Official (exchange) rate – 26,180 dong
• Rate at the airport - 25,875 dong
• Rate at Vu Binh jewelry on Cat Ba - 26,200
• Rate at Vu Binh jewelry on Cat Ba for old-style dollars - 25,700

As you can see, the rate on Cat Ba is quite acceptable, and it turns out to be 1.25% higher than at the airport. They also accept euros at a more favorable rate.
