Ish Bank Museum of Istanbul / Turkey Iş Bank Museum in Istanbul
Ish Bank Museum

Ish Bank Museum in Istanbul (Turkey Iş Bank Museum) - this is a large free museum dedicated to one of the largest and the first Republican bank. It is now known as Türkiye Iş Bankası. It was founded in 1924 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk along with the founding of the Republic of Turkey, and is a kind of national pride.

We will not say that tourists should visit it in the first place, but it is definitely worth a visit, especially since it is free. Consisting of two floors and a basement, it tells about the history of the bank and the formation of banking in Turkey. The exhibition includes photographs, old cash registers and counting machines, photographs, etc. On the second floor there is a room dedicated to the founder – Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. But the most interesting is in the basement, where there is a safe room and money storage. The bank safes and cells that were really used once were converted so that it was convenient for tourists to look at them. You can try to manually move the massive door to the vault, see what unusual things people keep in safe deposit boxes, go through the "digital corridor". Just do not miss the entrance to the basement: it is completely inconspicuous, is even before the security control at the entrance. What is perhaps missing in the museum is the collection of coins and banknotes. But, surprisingly, there is a Russian banknote of the beginning of the XX century, and some other exhibits come from Russia.

By the way, if anyone does not know, Ishbankasi bank is still the first and only one in Turkey that accepts plastic cards of the Mir system, and cash withdrawal from ATMs takes place on very favorable terms without commission (see more about money and plastic cards in Turkey). A branch of this bank operates, including in the Russian Federation.
