Yildirim Camii Mosque it is the heart of the traditional socio-cultural complex kulliye Yildirim (Yildirim Bayezid complex), which includes, in addition to the mosque, a madrasah, a Hamam, a hospital and the Sultan's mausoleum. The entire complex is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a monument of cultural heritage of Ottoman architecture. Built by Sultan Bayezid I (Yıldırım Bayezid, which means Sultan of lightning) in 1395. In the Madrasa of the complex there is a functioning hospital. As in other kulliye, the mosque is surrounded by a Green Park.
Unfortunately, as of 2019, the complex is under long restoration, it is possible to inspect the bathhouse, Madrasah, kitchen only from the side, and all of them are covered with scaffolding. The mausoleum, although not under restoration, is closed for inspection inside. Only the mosque remains untouched by the works, which can be viewed from the outside and inside. This is a functioning mosque, so when visiting, you should adhere to the traditional rules: take off your shoes at the entrance; do not take pictures of believers; do not enter with miniskirts, shorts, tops, T-shirts; women must cover their heads with a headscarf.
