Do the weight of purchases from Dutch free stores count in carry-on luggage

Article and Section Navigation

Today, airlines are increasingly tightening the rules for baggage and hand luggage, and they are doing this not at all in order to increase security, but to increase profits. Now the control of the weight and dimensions of hand luggage can be carried out not only at the check-in desk, but also directly upon boarding the flight. And this is far from the invention of Russian airlines, this practice has long been used in the world of air transportation by low-cost airlines.

Now the question of whether you will be allowed on board with goods purchased in duty-free shops, or they will also be counted in the weight of hand luggage and forced to pay extra or hand over in luggage, has become relevant for domestic airlines. And the answer is no.

You can take on board in the form of hand luggage goods purchased in dry-free stores, and no one will require you to pay for it

This norm in Russia is approved by the Federal Aviation Regulations " general rules for air transportation of passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees." According to these rules, "goods purchased in duty-free shops at the airport, packed in a sealed (sealed) plastic bag, the weight and dimensions of which are established by the rules of the carrier" passengers have the right to carry without charging an additional fee. This means that if in the international area of the airport you buy alcohol, cigarettes, cosmetics, souvenirs and any other goods in the dutifrey store, and it is packed in a special plastic bag, then no one will require you to pay extra for carrying it on board the aircraft. Sometimes, to confirm the purchase, you may also be required to present a check from the store.

But do not forget about an important condition: if you open a package of Dutch Fries, then with additional control of hand luggage before boarding the plane, you will have to pay for transportation in excess of the norm, unless of course this norm is exceeded with the purchase.

What about the rest of the world

The same rules apply all over the world, but there are also peculiarities. The rules of some foreign airlines indicate that the passenger has the right to carry free of charge a "reasonable" amount of goods from dry-fries. In this case, the mass of this "reasonable" amount is not specified. And, unfortunately, on the internet you can find reviews when boarding foreign airlines from foreign airports there were real problems due to the large number of purchases from Dutch Fries, and passengers were really forced to pay or leave the purchased goods at the airport. Therefore, show a reasonable measure in the matter of shopping in duty-free stores, and then you will not have problems with carrying hand luggage.
