What should be vaccinated, going on a trip

Article and Section Navigation

Travel is always excitement, joy, a flurry of emotions from acquaintance with a new culture, with mysterious places. Often it can be overshadowed by poorly tolerated acclimatization or intolerance to local cuisine. But it is always worth remembering one more serious aspect, especially when visiting exotic countries – the possibility of contracting a deadly disease. While in a potentially dangerous region, a traveler can avoid health problems by getting vaccinated in advance. Before vaccination or starting to use any medication, do not forget to consult a specialist.

In different countries, you can catch various diseases, but the greatest danger is encephalitis, yellow fever and malaria. The most dangerous to visit are equatorial countries with a humid climate. The African continent in the south and North is relatively safe, but in its equatorial part the danger of catching fever or malaria increases tenfold. Other potentially dangerous regions include South America, South and Southeast Asia. However, going to any exotic country is not worth panicking. The fact is that in most developed countries, most tropical diseases in densely populated developed areas are almost non-existent. This is especially true of large cities and resort areas, where chemical treatments are constantly carried out to combat infection.

If you are going to visit Saudi Arabia, it is recommended to get vaccinated against meningococcal infection, when traveling to Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Israel – from polio. Rabies vaccination should be considered when visiting countries where you can be bitten by a bat, dog or cat, this is, in particular, India, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Cambodia. Mandatory for visiting some regions are vaccinations against typhoid, hepatitis A, dysentery and cholera, the latter should be done only if an outbreak of the disease is detected in the state where you intend to go.

To enter a number of countries (there are about 20), a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever, which is transmitted by bites of infected mosquitoes, is required.

Vaccinations against malaria do not exist, but, going to the vicinity of the Amazon, you can take a course of medication in advance. Such a course does not completely exclude the possibility of contracting malaria, but significantly reduces this probability. Courses of malaria medication are usually taken a month before travel.

Ticks, carriers of encephalitis, live in huge numbers in Russia, especially in Siberia and the Urals. To protect against tick-borne encephalitis, there are vaccinations.

Strong immunity after vaccination, the body usually produces a month, but some vaccinations should be done much earlier before the intended trip, so think about the safety measures of your health in advance.
