Planning a trip to Boracay — do you need a visa for the Philippines and what else is required for entry?

Short answer: you don't need a visa for a trip to Boracay if you are a Russian citizen and flying for up to 30 days. Boracay is part of the Philippines, so the same entry rules apply as for the whole country. Upon arrival at the airport, you will simply be given a free 30-day stamp in your passport; there is no need to pay or fill out anything extra at the border.
Citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and EU countries can enter the Philippines (and therefore Boracay) without a visa. However, citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova must obtain a visa in advance — at consular offices in their own country, in neighboring countries, or in Southeast Asian countries. The visa fee is about $50, depending on the method and place of application.
To pass through the border smoothly and get to Boracay, you need to meet a few simple conditions:
- Passport validity — at least 6 months after the date of departure according to return tickets.
- Return tickets or tickets to any third country. They are checked randomly, but if you don't have a ticket, you may be denied entry. Moreover, they ask for it at check-in at the departure airport.
- eTravel QR code — the electronic form must be filled out on the website etravel.gov.ph no earlier than 5 days before entry. It replaced the old paper migration and customs forms. If you have any difficulties, we have detailed instructions on how to fill out eTravel.
Insurance and hotel reservations should not officially be required upon entry to the Philippines — that is a thing of the past from pandemic times. But we still recommend getting insurance: it is inexpensive and can really help during your trip if anything happens.
If 30 days in Boracay is not enough for you, there are two options. First — extend your visa-free stay by another 29 days right on the spot, for a total of 59 days. The extension is paid, from 4060 pesos, and can be done at immigration offices, as well as directly at Manila and Cebu airports upon arrival. Just don't forget to apply for the extension no later than 14 days before the stamp expires, otherwise you will be fined. The second option is to leave to a neighboring country for about a day and come back, getting a new free 30-day stamp.
