Yes, it is true, but there is no need to worry. In Egypt, it is not the phone itself that is blocked, but the operation of the local SIM card if the device is not registered in the national system. This happens if the phone continuously uses an Egyptian SIM card for more than 90 days. For short trips of 1-2 weeks, this is absolutely not a problem. Your home roaming and hotel Wi-Fi will continue to work. If you plan a long stay, it is easier to buy a cheap local smartphone for internet sharing.
