No, exchanging a large amount of money at the airport in Egypt is not profitable. This is the most inconvenient method in terms of exchange rate. The difference with the rate in the city can be about 3% or more.

You absolutely do not need this for several reasons:

  1. Transfer can be paid in currency: All transportation from the airport (taxi, transfer to the hotel) can easily be paid in dollars or euros. Drivers will gladly accept foreign currency.
  2. The hotel will also accept currency: When checking into the hotel, if you need to pay a deposit or additional services, you can also do this in dollars or euros.
  3. Exchanging in the city is more profitable: It is better to exchange a small amount (50-100 dollars) at the airport if you urgently need local pounds for small expenses (water, snacks), and exchange the bulk of the money later in the cityβ€”at a bank, ATM, or trusted exchange point where the rate is significantly better.

Thus, there is no need to exchange all your money immediately upon arrival. Wait until you reach the resort and do it in a more advantageous place. For more details on all exchange options, read our article Where is it better to exchange currency in Egypt.
