The exchange rate for dollars and euros at the airport is quite acceptable and matches the rates at banks in cities and resorts. You can get a better exchange only at exchange offices and in jewelry shops and pawnshops in Colombo and at major resorts such as Negombo, Hikkaduwa, Kandy. So if you don't need to exchange a large amount (more than 500 dollars) and don't want to spend time searching on the spot, you can exchange right here. For reference, we compared rates at one point, and it turned out that exchange in jewelry shops in the center of Negombo and at exchange offices in the Colombo Fort area was higher than at the airport, by about 2% for dollars and euros. Also note that at the airport, the exchange rate is good only for dollars and euros, while other currencies are accepted at an unfavorable rate and are better exchanged in Colombo. Rubles are not accepted at the airport, as indeed anywhere in Sri Lanka.
