Although Lopburi is known as the monkey city, there is plenty to see besides them. It is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, a former capital of Siam, where unique Khmer and Ayutthaya ruins are preserved. Here is a list of must-see places:

  • Phra Prang Sam Yot: The city's landmark. Three Khmer towers shaped like corn cobs, inhabited by a huge number of monkeys. Located right next to the train station. Entrance 50 baht.
  • Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat: The largest and most impressive temple complex in the city, built in the 13th century. Located opposite the train station. Almost no monkeys here. Entrance 50 baht.
  • Phra Narai Ratchaniwet (King Narai's Palace and Museum): The palace of King Narai from the 17th century. The grounds include an archaeological museum, throne hall, and beautiful gardens. No monkeys here. Entrance 150 baht. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • San Phra Kan: An active temple combining Buddhism and Hinduism. This is the main concentration of monkeys, where they are fed. Free entry, but donations are welcome.
  • Night Market: The main evening entertainment. On the main street from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, many stalls with authentic Thai food are set up. Almost no souvenirs, but you can have a tasty and inexpensive dinner.

All these attractions are in the old city and are accessible on foot. For a full list with descriptions, opening hours, and prices, see our article Monkey City Lopburi: The Most Detailed Guide.
