The cheapest way to get from central Kuala Lumpur to KLIA airport is by bus. Fares start from 15 ringgit (about $3.2), which is 4 times cheaper than a taxi and almost 4 times cheaper than the airport express.

Here is a brief comparison of budget options:

  • Bus (from 15 RM): Takes 60-90 minutes, departs from KL Sentral, Pudu or TBS. Our choice for price/convenience.
  • Taxi (from 65 RM): 4+ times more expensive, but more comfortable and without transfers.
  • Airport Express (55 RM): Faster (28-33 min), but you first need to get to KL Sentral station, which adds time and money.

For maximum savings, choose the bus from KL Sentral station. This is the most reliable departure point. Tickets can be purchased directly at the ticket office on the lower level of the station (only for the next departure). Buses run frequently, from 03:00 to 00:00.

If you plan to travel from Pudu Sentral station, be careful: there are no more ticket offices there. To guarantee a seat, buy tickets online in advance, for example, through the aggregator 12go.asia, where you can pay in cash at 7-Eleven.

Remember about traffic jams! During peak hours, the bus journey can take up to 1.5 hours. Always allow extra time, especially if you have an evening or night flight.

Despite the low price, the buses are comfortable, with air conditioning and luggage space. They first arrive at terminal KLIA2, then at KLIA, so they are suitable for departures from either terminal.
