Getting from Kuala Lumpur to the famous Batu Caves is easiest and cheapest by the KTM Komuter commuter train. It is a direct and convenient connection.
Route:
- You need to get to KL Sentral station (the main transport hub) or any other station on the KTM Komuter line (e.g., Kuala Lumpur Station in Chinatown).
- Take the Batu Caves-Port Klang line train (colored blue on maps).
- Ride to the terminal station β Batu Caves. Travel time from KL Sentral is about 29 minutes.
Cost and schedule: A ticket from KL Sentral to Batu Caves costs 2.6 Malaysian ringgit. Ticket counters at Batu Caves station are open from 6:00 to 21:30. The last train back to the city departs at 22:35. Trains usually run every 15-30 minutes, but it is best to check the current schedule on site.
Important: Batu Caves station is literally a hundred meters from the entrance to the caves; you will immediately see the giant golden statue of Lord Hanuman. This is the most popular and reliable method, not affected by traffic jams.
An alternative is a taxi or ride-hailing (Grab), which is faster but significantly more expensive (from 25-30 ringgit one way).
