The Golden Triangle is located in the far north of Thailand, in Chiang Rai province, on the border with Myanmar (Burma) and Laos.
Exact coordinates of the center (Sop Ruak village, where tourists take the main photos): 20.3526° N, 100.0824° E.
On the map, it looks like this:
- This is the confluence point of the Mekong and Ruak rivers.
- To the north, across the Ruak River, is Myanmar.
- To the east, across the Mekong River, is Laos.
- On the Thai side is the village of Sop Ruak, considered the epicenter of the tourist area.
- The nearest Thai town is Chiang Saen, 9 km to the south.
- Distance from the provincial capital, Chiang Rai city, is about 80 km.
- Distance from Chiang Mai is approximately 250-300 km.
