The easiest way to get from Kuala Lumpur to Pangkor is by bus to Lumut or Seri Manjung port, and then by ferry. This is the most popular and affordable route. Here is a step-by-step guide:
- To the port by bus. Buses depart from both Kuala Lumpur Airport (KLIA) and the city center from TBS bus station.
- From the airport (KLIA Bus Terminal): There are many flights (at least 10 per day, including night ones). The journey takes 4-6 hours, a ticket costs 45-53 Malaysian ringgit (MYR). Tickets can be purchased at the terminal counters or online.
- From the center (TBS station): Buses run every hour, including at night. Travel time is 4-6 hours, price is 30-35 MYR.
- By ferry from the mainland to Pangkor. From the cities of Lumut or Seri Manjung, you need to take a ferry.
- Lumut Port (Lumut Pangkor Ferry Jetty): The ferry takes 30-40 minutes, costs 20 MYR for a round-trip ticket. Departs from 07:15 to 19:00 every 30-60 minutes.
- Marina Port (Marina Island Jetty): The ferry is faster, 10-20 minutes, also costs 20 MYR. Departs from 07:15 to 19:15 every hour. However, buses do not go to this port, you will have to take a taxi.
Important points:
- The ferry ticket is purchased for both ways at once. Keep it! For the return trip from Pangkor, this ticket must be exchanged for a boarding pass at the port ticket offices on the island.
- Bus and ferry schedules may change. Always double-check information on carrier websites or at ticket counters.
- If you are flying into Malaysia, it is better to withdraw cash ringgit from an airport ATM (Maybank, CIMB), as there are almost no exchange offices on Pangkor, and cards are rarely accepted.
