Answer (changed )

The dangerous Kra Sae Bridge (Kra Sae Cave Bridge) is one of the most impressive and photogenic sections of the historic "Death Railway." The railway track here is laid on wooden piles driven directly into the sheer cliff above the Kwai Noi River. The uniqueness lies in the fact that real trains still run on this seemingly shaky bridge!

What to do here:

  • Walk across the bridge on foot along the sleepers (when there is no train!). It's thrilling, but be carefulβ€”the gaps between the sleepers are large.
  • Take epic photos against the backdrop of the cliffs, river, and the bridge itself. There are special viewing platforms.
  • Visit the cave temple Tham Kra Sae, located right in the cliff at the beginning of the bridge. Inside, there are Buddhist statues and altars.
  • See a passing trainβ€”an unforgettable sight. Trains pass 6 times a day (schedule below).

Practical information

When to go: Around the clock, but more interesting during the day. Train schedule (passing over the bridge): 6:00, 7:33, 11:46, 13:40, 16:13, 17:46. It's better to arrive between trips to walk around calmly.

Entrance fee: Free.

How to get there: The bridge is located 50 km from Kanchanaburi city on the road to Nam Tok station.

  • By rented transport/taxi: The easiest way.
  • By train: The most authentic way! Take the train from Kanchanaburi to Lumsum or Nam Tok station. You will ride over the bridge itself, and on the way back, you can get off at Lumsum station and explore it on foot. The fare costs 100 baht.

This place is a must-visit to understand the history and for the incredible views. Read more about its history and our impressions here: Cave temple and dangerous Kra Sae Bridge.
