A sleeper bus (Sleeper or Sleeping Bus) is a unique type of transport, a hallmark of Vietnam, designed for long overnight journeys. Instead of regular seats, the cabin has three rows of semi-reclining or reclining beds in two tiers.

This is what the interior of a regular sleeper bus looks like

How the trip goes:

  • Boarding: Before entering the cabin, you need to remove your shoes. They will be packed in a bag and given to you. It's better to wear socks or bring flip-flops.
  • In the cabin: You will be given a bottle of water, a wet wipe, and a blanket. In more comfortable buses, there may be individual sockets, USB ports, and curtains for privacy.
  • On the road: The bus makes 1-2 technical stops for 15-20 minutes at gas stations, where there are toilets and cafes. There is also usually a toilet on the bus itself.
  • For comfort: Bring a warm sweater (the air conditioning works very powerfully), earplugs, an eye mask, and a power bank.

There is also an improved version β€” VIP Sleeper Bus, which has only two rows of wider seats, each often being a capsule that closes with a curtain. This is the best choice for trips longer than 8 hours.
