A guide for visiting Ta Phin Cave is not mandatory but highly recommended. You can enter the cave on your own, but there are nuances that make the services of a local guide very useful.

Why it's better to go with a guide:

  • Lighting activation: The main lighting in the cave is only turned on for a fee (20,000 dong). A guide, usually from the local Ta Phin village, will do this for you. Without light, it's dark and uninteresting to go.
  • Safety and navigation: The cave has many branches, and without knowledge of the route, you can get lost. The guide will lead you along a safe tourist route up to 300 meters long.
  • Flashlight: You will be given a flashlight (or use your own), as the general lighting is partial.
  • Support for locals: Often, guides are women in traditional attire or teenagers from the village. This is a small but important income for them. Payment is usually symbolic (another about 20,000 dong) or in the form of buying souvenirs from them.
Guides usually stand guard right at the cave entrance or in Ta Phin village. It's better to agree on the amount in advance. Even if you decide to go without a guide, a headlamp is a must-have.
