In which countries and where exactly do land leeches live?

Land leeches inhabit humid tropical regions, such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, and other countries in Southeast Asia. They can only be found in specific locations: in humid forests, jungles, near water bodies, swamps, on overgrown grassy fields and trails. They are absent in dry places—cities, on asphalt, open rocky spaces.
They are especially active during the rainy season. Leeches do not stay in one place—they crawl quickly on the ground and grass, can climb low bushes (up to a meter) and swiftly "step over" onto their victim. They cling to shoes and clothing, then seek a path to exposed skin, and can crawl through socks or thin fabric.
