Answer (changed )

The national currency of Egypt is the Egyptian pound. Its international code is EGP, but on price tags within the country, you will most often see the designation L.E. (from the French Livre egyptienne) or, less commonly, EΒ£. Sometimes prices may be indicated in piastres (pt), for example, 5000pt instead of 50 L.E.

In circulation, there are banknotes with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 pounds, as well as coins of 25 and 50 piastres and 1 pound. It is important to be careful: banknotes of different denominations are very similar in size, and the numbers on one side are written in Indo-Arabic symbols, which are unfamiliar to tourists. Always flip the banknote to see the familiar Arabic numerals and verify the denomination.

Important! Be especially cautious when receiving change. Sometimes old piastre banknotes (which are 100 times smaller than a pound) may be given instead of pounds. Do not rush and always check.
