Yes, you need to declare currency when entering Vietnam, but only if its amount exceeds the established limits. The declaration itself is free and will save you from potential problems upon exit.

You must fill out a customs declaration and go through the "red corridor" in the following cases:

  • If you have foreign currency (dollars, euros, rubles, etc.) with a total value equivalent to more than 5000 US dollars.
  • If you have Vietnamese dong with a total value of more than 15,000,000 VND (approximately 45958 rubles at the exchange rate at the beginning of 2026).
  • If you have gold in bars or items with a total weight of more than 300 grams.

If you are carrying less than these amounts, you do not need to declareβ€”you can go through the "green corridor". Exporting currency from the country is also not restricted, but the same declaration rules apply.

We recommend keeping all receipts for major purchases made in Vietnam. This can be useful as proof of the legality of the origin of funds and goods, as well as for processing a tax refund (VAT Refund).
