Thien Mu Pagoda is located about 5 km west of the center of Hue, on the left bank of the Perfume River. It is one of the oldest and most iconic pagodas in Vietnam, its seven-story tower is an unofficial symbol of the city.

How to get to Thien Mu Pagoda:

  • By taxi or via Grab: The easiest and fastest way. A trip from the tourist area will cost about 100,000 dong (about $4) one way.
  • By rented motorbike or bicycle: Gives freedom of movement. The road along the river is scenic.
  • As part of a tour: The pagoda is almost always included in group city and tomb tours.
  • By boat: You can get there as part of a river cruise on the Perfume River, which will add to the experience.

Practical information: Entry to the pagoda is free. It is open daily from 8:00 to 17:00. Note that from 11:30 to 14:00, part of the complex may be closed, as the monks have lunch at this time. The pagoda is an active monastery, so dress modestly.

Visiting Thien Mu Pagoda can be conveniently combined with seeing the Tomb of Minh Mang, which is located nearby. For more ideas for combined routes and exact location on the map, look in our guide.
