How to get to Halong Bay in Vietnam on your own?

You can get to Halong Bay on your own in several ways, but the most convenient option is to use a tourist bus from Hanoi. The trip will take about 3-4 hours, and the ticket price is approximately 100,000 dong (about 4 dollars). Buses depart from Hanoi bus stations such as Long Bien, Gia Lam, My Dinh, or Luong Yen, and arrive at Bai Chay station in Halong.

If you plan to visit the bay from Cat Ba Island, it is better to choose a ready-made transfer from Hanoi, which includes a ferry crossing. This will take about 4-5 hours, but you will find yourself in a picturesque place with beaches and additional attractions.

For those who value comfort, there is the possibility of renting a taxi or minibus. This will be more expensive but will save time and effort. You can also get to Haiphong by train, and from there by ferry to Cat Ba, but this route is more complicated and requires transfers.
