Alcohol in Sri Lanka is very expensive due to high taxes. Local Lion beer in a 0.5L can costs from 480 rupees (126 rubles) in stores, and in cafes and restaurants, prices can be twice as high. Strong drinks, such as arrack (0.75L), will cost from 3000 rupees (790 rubles), and local rum—from 5500 rupees (1449 rubles). Imported options, for example Beefeater gin, cost from 18500 rupees (4872 rubles). Cigarettes are also not cheap—from 1800 rupees (474 rubles) per pack. If you plan to consume alcohol, consider these expenses in your budget, as they can significantly increase the overall trip costs.
