UnionPay card of a Russian bank does not work in Vietnam, what could be the problem?

In general, UnionPay cards from Russian banks not under sanctions work in Vietnam without problems. But there can be reasons why the card is not accepted:

• The bank is under sanctions (currently only cards from Rosselkhozbank (RSHB) are working)
• You are entering the PIN incorrectly or incompletely (in Vietnam, the PIN is six digits, you need to add two zeros at the end, i.e., for a PIN "1234" you need to enter "123400".
• There is no money in the balance, check in the bank's app.
• Restrictions are set on the card, check again in the bank's app.
• Technical work is being carried out at the bank. This happens periodically at RSHB, usually they notify in advance in the app or via SMS about the time and duration.
• An incorrect terminal or ATM is being used. Not all ATMs and store terminals work with UnionPay. From personal experience, in some even large chain stores, they asked to try payment through another terminal, and it went through.
• The card or terminal does not support contactless payment or vice versa, specifically for UnionPay. This has also occurred in our practice, and you just need to ask the seller to insert the card into the terminal, or vice versa only tap.
• Finally, there are stores where there are no terminals for UnionPay in principle, they only accept Mastercard or Visa, but such are very few.
