Is it worth going to Rinjani without a guide?

No, climbing Rinjani on your own is strongly not recommended. Even experienced travelers may find it dangerous due to logistical and physical challenges. The summit height is 3,726 meters, and the elevation gain on the route exceeds 2,700 meters, so an overnight stay at an intermediate camp is unavoidable. This requires camping equipment: tents, sleeping bags, food, and water, which are difficult to carry alone.
Additionally, organizational issues complicate a solo hike: obtaining a permit in the national park (200,000 rupiah/day), transportation to the villages of Senaru or Sembalun Lawang, and navigation along the route. Ready-made tours solve these problems: guides ensure safety, porters carry equipment, and meals and water are included in the cost.
If you still want to save money, you can join a group with local guides, but do not risk going aloneβit could lead to exhaustion or injuries.
